At the Liverpool String Academy, we provide high quality, free training in string playing with a particular focus on historically-informed performance.
Our tutors are highly trained professional musicians, working as performers in their own right with orchestras such as the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, BBC Philharmonic, The Hallé, Opera North and Manchester Baroque.
Some of our tutors are alumni of the Liverpool String Academy, returning to pass on their knowledge to the next generation of young string players. This is a testament to their hard-work and to the family of musicians which makes up the LSA.

Charlie is a Liverpool born violinist, currently studying at the Royal Northern College of Music. She is a tutor and performer at EMAE, of which she was originally a student. Charlie enjoys working in music in healthcare, and is currently a Young Creator with Songbirds Music UK, working in Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. Since 2025, Charlie is an Ambassador of the Benedetti Foundation.

Steph is a violist originally from Liverpool, currently studying at the Royal Northern College of Music. She enjoys performing with a wide range of ensembles, from viola sextets to full symphony orchestras, exploring varied repertoire. Since joining EMAE as a student then later a tutor, she has developed a particular passion for Baroque music.

Lizzie is a freelance cellist and teacher based in Merseyside. Having completed her MA, in both modern and baroque cello, and LRAM at the Royal Academy of Music she has played with professional orchestras and chamber ensembles both in the UK and internationally.

Vanni Moretto
Conductor & Double Bassist
We welcome the acclaimed conductor and double bassist Vanni Moretto. Vanni founded the classical orchestra Atalanta Fugiens and has conducted many important baroque orchestras including Il Giardino Armonico. He will collaborate with the LSA Orchestra for a concert on 21st February and will run a continuo workshop with our lower string players.

International Visiting Artist
Fabio Bagnoli is one of our international visiting artists. He is one of the most respected oboe soloists and chamber musicians in Italy. He is performing in Turin, Valtournenche and in Liverpool with the LSA Orchestra in 2026 as well as joining us for our 10 year anniversary tour of Italy in 2027.
